Roundabout & cucumber

Life in Scotland is pretty perfect atm. The weekend has been long, cold, crazy, new, adventurous, weird and amazing -all at the same time! We've met people from Scotland, Ireland, the Netherlands, England, Japan, Canada and Australia, we've gotten lost, we've been to strange & beautiful places, we've stood in the ice cold rain, we've had ridiculously cheep pints and all of this with smiles on our faces.

The title refers to 1) our favorite word pronouncement with a scottish accent and 2) oddly, a frequent conversation topic we've had with locals.

Edinburgh calling

Right now I'm sitting at one of the 500 Starbucks cafes in town, thank god for free wifi! We've only been here for 3 days but it definitely feels like atleast a week... And the city is unlike anything I've ever experienced before, it's so compact but still alive, not to mention the huge castle on top of the hill which looks down on the city, the old buildings and pubs... So beautiful!
I could tell you so much but that would take me hours so I'll just leave you with a few pictures from my instagram. Ceers!

Not having an internet connection at all times means looking like a tourist with a huge map... XD

Hello Edinburgh

Actually, right now I'm laying on a bench in Frankfurt. Anyways, the day is finally here! I'll be spending the next 3 weeks in Edinburgh Scotland with my classmates. I've basically slept like 3 hours so I'm pretty beat but very excited. I don't have my computer with me but I'll try to update now and then on my phone :)

Work & Packing

Our adventure with Emppu on Monday was pretty fun actually! We started off by just sitting by the river bench, feeling like two of the biggest teenagers ever. Then we made our way to Aussie where I met my classmate Elin and Emppu offered us some drinks as a way of celebrating her getting into pilot school (yup, she's actually going to be a pilot, how friggin' cool isn't that?!) and then we even went to Forte. My plan was to just chill and work on my essay on Thursday but at 8.30 in the morning my boss called and asked me if I could come to work. So the good employee that I am, I got up and went to work for 7 hours... It actually went pretty well but I was pretty tired when I got back home.
Yesterday I worked another long shift and today I've had the day off so I finally got to work on that last damn essay. I still have about half of the essay to finish and I'm hoping to do that today, 'cause tomorrow I have work all day and on Friday I absolutely have to pack (since I'm leaving on Saturday night...yikes!). I have no idea what to take with me... 3 weeks in Edinburgh, what do I need?? Help is much appreciated.

I was stressing over this week since I still have a few essays
to finish and so much to do before my trip. Luckily today I finished one of my 6-page essays so now I only have one more essay to finish! And I'm celebrating that by going out with Emppu, it was a bit extempore but we decided, hey why not! But usually the unplanned nights turn out to be the best ones!
Oh god, I haven't taken webcam selfies in F O R E V E R

Last night my friends came over and after eating a little something we watched the Eurovision finale together! Conchita Wurst from Austria won and I have to say she was quite fabulous. And Finland got 11th place which is really good, the boys definitely deserved it!
Mother's Day gifts // Saladbuffet last night

Today we've been celebrating Mother's Day with some good food and a delicious cake that my dad made. I made my mom homemade meringue (It was my first time making them so I was really happy that they turned out good!) and now I'm just chilling for the rest of the night with my family. In a week I will be on a plane heading to Scotland so the next week will be pretty hectic, as I have a lot of school related things to fix and also some errands to run before the trip!
I have the best mom in the world, älskar dig!

Something better

I really don't have anything interesting to tell you about the last few days. I've still been sick, I felt like I pretty much coughed my lungs out last night but now I'm finally feeling better! I've mostly been working on the hundreds of essays and deadlines I have for next week. But I'm glad to say that I've nearly finished them all! And after binge watching Hannibal on Netflix I discovered that I had looked up the release date for season 2 wrong, which means that it's already out! Hallelujah!
Tomorrow I have my last exam of this school year, I wouldn't say I'm really that excited to go and do an exam at 8 in the morning on a Friday but at least I'll get out of the house. Btw, the second semi-final for the Eurovision airs tonight and Finland is competing, if you happen to be able to vote you should! Go Finland! The song is actually really good so I hope they make it to the final!

Cross it off

I got this sudden realization that I have so much to do before I go to Edinburgh, mostly regarding classes. So I've tried my best to cross off some things on my to-do-list today and I'm happy to say I've come quite far. Right now my brain feels fried so I think it's time to relax and watch an episode of Hannibal.
'Cause I wanna watch you catch bad guys, duh!

After working a pretty long shift on Saturday and only sleeping for four hours for some reason (I don't know where this recent insomnia is coming from!!) I felt really tired all weekend. Especially yesterday, I felt terrible, and no wonder, I had a fever. I actually almost never get a fever... so I ended up just laying on the sofa all day.
I still woke up today and went to my last lecture of my first year in Uni! Can you believe it? A year? That shit cray. Anyways, right now I'm prepping for my exam that is on Friday and that's all I'll be doing basically this week. And I'll take it easy too, I still feel pretty sick and I wanna get well before we leave to Edinburgh which is in 2 weeks! Speaking of, I just got the information on my host family and they seem really nice! Also I'll be staying with the same family as Oona which is great, I think I would be quite nervous having to move into a complete strangers house for a month alone. Haha, how will I be able to survive my obligatory language practice abroad? Anyways, I'm super excited!

Ps. A year ago we left for our abitrip to Magaluf. Byäääh I wanna go somewhere to get tanned!!

Valborg 2014

For those of you who are not from here, Valborg (or Vappu in Finnish) is a holiday where we celebrate the working class (but really it's more about people getting drunk and/or hanging out with friends). At 6 o'clock everybody puts on their graduation cap and the festivities begin (or continue). It's also a sort of "summer is on its way"-kinda thing I guess. ANYWAYS!
Our plan was to first meet up at Julle's to have something to eat and to drink. As I was walking to julle's a woman suddenly said to me: "Hey lady, I just have to say that you look really nice to day, you look absolutely fabulous!" I thought that was really nice, I instantly felt like it would be a good evening. After eating we made our way to a huge park called Vartiovuori or Vårdis as we call it. It is tradition that all finland-swedes meet there and all Finnish-speakers meet in Puolalan puisto to put on their caps. It was out first year getting to put on our caps since we only graduated last year and it felt really nice!
After hanging around in the park for about half an hour we were invited to Axels where some of our old classmates were. I think we were there for a couple of hours until it was time to move on. We got a bit split up but me, Isa, Sofie and Cristel went to RHC. It was so strange since it wasn't even full when we got there, but then we realized it was only 11 o'clock. It felt like the day had went on forever, no surprise there considering I got to julle's at 3. Anyways, RHC was a lot of fun! After and hour or so Isa and I moved on to our final destination, B. And I stayed there until 5 in the morning, you can imagine how tired I was walking to the taxi at 5 in the morning! But it was light outside which was nice, and the city was so peaceful. I have to say it was probably the best Vappu I've had so far, just because we had no plans and no expectations, but somehow we managed to meet so many people and visit so many different places!

Aapo & Kata

I also met Nicloa & Helmi, haha these pictures though XD

On May first traditionally people go out to parks on picnics and that was our plans as well, but it had been raining all night (and I didn't wake up until 1 o'clock, woops) so the girls (and cristel's boyfriend Aki) came over to our place instead for some homemade donuts! We also played game board and I at least had a really good time! Once they all left I was so tired, I just layed on the couch for the rest of the evening.
Everybody was pretty tired from the night before so my mom and grandma were the only ones drinking champagne...

Homemade and DELICIOUS!

Today I've been to work, it was a pretty long day but I was super happy to see that there was pie and pavlova-cake waiting for me. Tomorrow I have even a longer day at work, from opening 'till closing so I'd better get some sleep. Goodnight!

Friday, May 2, 2014

I will try to briefly say what I've been doing for the past week, excluding Vappen/Vappu which I will tell you about in a separate post! Oh ans also, I went to see Divergent with Emppu on Sunday which was fun and we were totally drooling over the male lead...I also worked on my puzzle, YES ok I am doing a puzzle with 1000 pieces and YES I do have a life and NO I'm not five XD My mom brought it home and I thought I would just try it for a bit and now I'm completely hooked!

On Monday I went to school and it felt like a lifetime ago that I had last been there! After having lunch and working on my language essay for a while I went to work and it felt like a lifetime ago that I had been there as well. I basically had a day when I practiced working in the kitchen, glazing donuts and what not. On Tuesday I had the day off but I decided to be a good girl and go to school to work on my language essay. And I ended up sitting in the computer class for 4 hours... but I finished the damn essay which is good! When I got home I ate realy quickly, did a quick stop at the grocery store and went to practice. After shooting hoops for a couple of hours I got home and made a potato salad which I have to say was pretty delicious. Aaand that's about it! At least the first half of the week!
Some snapshots: Morning coffee//Breakfast//I also made mocha-squares (that's a straight transaltion from Finnish but I guess you could compare them with brownies?)//Me pissed off after writing on my essay on Singapore English for 4 hours...

Yup, one week has gone by and I haven't updated. Sorry, it's been a very hectic week and I will tell you all about it in just a few odd minutes, just wanted to check in and tell you I'm alive. In the meantime, enjoy a video from Vappu where me, my friends and some other randoms are being interviewed. I hope you understand swedish!

My favorite answer to what is the best thing with Vappu comes from Emppu:
"Balloons and alcohol"
