Happy (late) Thanksgiving!

Mera Glögg!

First of I have to say I had a really really good time yesterday, Glöggrundan ruled!
We met up at four thirty by the church where we got our maps and a glass of hot glögg (Mulled Wine), and at four we started making our way to the first pub, which was Hunter's Inn. First cup of glögg and some of us took a 'surprise drink' which turned out to be a pretty bad decision. We managed to go to 8 bars, or we could've gone to a few more but since we only needed 8 stamps on our map to get the a badge from Monkey we decided 8 was enough. I have to say that I'm pretty tired of glögg now, after drinking something like 6 or 7 glasses of it last nigth. Oh and the bars we went too were Hunter's Inn, The Castle, Tinatuoppi, Bar Edison, The Cow, Red Hot Chili's, B4R and Nightclub Marilyn, and the afterparty was at The Monkey. Oh god, the line to the Monkey was crazy, I swear we stood in line for an hour!
Then we stayed at the monkey for quite a while, just chatting and hanging, I even danced a little but I felt pretty stupid not being able to move mu right leg at all. At 2 me and my mom took the same taxi home, which was good because I din't feel that great today... But as I said I had a lot of fun, and I have all of my helpful friends to thank for that, so Thank you!

You've probably noted that this week has been all about school and homework which is pretty boring... But no more of that, today I finally get to put on my overalls and me and approximately 1000 other students are going on a huge glögg/pub-crawl! Super super super excited for tonight, hopefully I'll have a lot of pictures to show you tomorrow!
Oh and yesterday I also got to see my lovely friends, over some dinner and coffee, it was absolutely delightful!

Head explosion

5 hours of work later and this is how my brain feels...
and it's far from over, I still have to analyze three text that my teacher claims even experts have difficulties to wrap their heads around, oh joy...

Things we should say more often

I'm taking a quick brake from doing more homework, again, surprise, right? Right now I'm writing an essay about "How the dark dystopian predicitions in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four affect the way we look at societies today" or something like that. It's actually very interesting but oh so time consuming, not to mention that I've already finished doing my part of a 45 minute presentation of the languages in Ireland today. So GO me!
I'm sorry for not having any exciting pictures to post but I thought I'd share a cute video I saw posted on Facebook today, just to remind you of the small things in life!

Whenever I'm bored I usually browse Pinterest or Buzzfeed on my phone, it's great for finding funny articles and lists, gift ideas, interior design ideas and recipes, I thought I'd just show you a quick collage of all the stuff I've pinned!

Red John

My day has mostly consisted of doing homework, like I already mentioned I have a lot of assignments this week and the next that I have to finish. I'm also feeling slightly stressed because I'll miss all my exams due to our trip to Florida and I'll have to take them in January instead, I'm just hoping I'd get to do at least one exam before we go just to get it over with... we'll see.
I don't know if any of you have watched Mentalist but I just saw the latest episode and they finally revealed who Red John is, it was pretty intense!
I don't know which one is more scary: The pile of homework I have (luckily today's technology stores that pile conveniently in word documents, not in an actual pile of books. Could you imagine?) or Red John's signature mark... Ok maybe Red John wins this one...

Chilly November Nights

Today me and my mom went to check out this big outlet sale they had with mostly cosmetics, and I got some stuff like a mascara, deodorant and a primer! Super happy with that. It's also getting a lot colder which I love, mostly because I'm hot all the time! Seriously, I think it's some sort of side effect of the medicine I'm taking or our house is just really really warm... anyways, colder weather suits me just fine, besides, in less than three weeks I'll be laying on the beach in Florida!
Other plans today include just chilling with the family. Oh also, yesterday I tried to drive and it went pretty well so from now on I don't have to ask everybody else to give me a lift!

That Christmas feeling

Yes yes yes, the gingerbread has been baked and decorated, now I'm just waiting for the glögg to get warm and then we'll start our annual tradition of watching Love Actually. Love love love!
Some of our creations today, the frosting was pink and the sparkles were white and silver!

Baby steps

I'm very proud of being so productive today, I've spent most of my time finishing a project I have due next week, on the languages in Ireland. It's a good thing that I got it finished because I have like 3 or 4 other major projects that I need to finish for school over the next two weeks, so it feels nice getting at least part of it done!
As I mentioned I got the shoe last night and today I've been walking...well you can't really call it walking 'cause I'm like the slowest human being in the world right now.. Baby steps, right?
My dream of baking gingerbread will hopefully come true today and I might also get a visit from Julle at some point. AND I think me and my dad are gonna try to see if I can drive, that would help my life SO MUCH! No more going to school two hours before my classes start yey!

Oh and I almost forgot, I was invited by my teammate Essi to perform at a dinner she hosted, so yesterday I went over there as a surprise guest and performed a few songs. I think it went pretty well and I hope the guests enjoyed it!
Me yesterday// Behold, the ultra-fashionable shoe that I will be sporting for the next few weeks!

This weekend I want to...

...and maybe even listen to some Christmas tunes. What! It's almost December, I think I'm allowed to get into the spirit of the holidays already!

It's Nacho problem

First of all, Catching Fire was ah-maizing! I mean ofc the books are always better but the movie definitely didn't disappoint! Somehow I always find the latter parts of a trilogy  better, the story gets deeper and the problems are more complex... anyways I really liked it and I love seeing some Katniss/Peeta action. Definitely recommend you to see it!
Yesterday I had another long day at school, we actually had a lecture that was really interesting, the downside was that I had to jump up a hill to get there... after school we decided to go and celebrate Oona for turning 19 (Happy Birthday Oona once again!) so we went to Red Hot Chili's. I had a Nacho platter, yum! (Like the wordplay in the title?)
And today I had my last appointment with the doctor until 3 weeks from now when I get to take the cast off for good! They changed my cast (man it was weird seeing my leg again, it's really strange how quickly your muscles weaken) and gave me the shoe (hallelujah!) so starting from tomorrow I can start putting a little bit of weight on my leg.

Catching fire

'ello, 'ello! I only had one course today but I stayed a bit longer in school, just chatting with my classmates. Then they all left and abandoned me (don't take me too seriously) so I called my dad to pick me up, I actually had one lecture that started about 30 minutes ago, but attendance isn't compulsory so I decided to skip it. This gives me more time to chill at home before me and Emppu go and see Catching Fire!
I don't want to brag but hanging the flags in our Student's Lounge like that was actually my idea you're welcome, world // "Im bored and alone" selfie

Dear Santa

Dear Santa

Here are some of the things I wish for (or that I plan to buy myself when we go to Florida!)
Body Mist/Perfume from Victoria's Secret
Pencils and journals for school
Phone case
Shoes (I'm in desperate need of ballerinas!)
Re-usable coffee mug or termosmug

The essentials

Yet another long day at school, I'm trying to really memorize everything we're talking about since I'll miss all my exams and will have to take them in January. This means more time to forget everything, hope that's not the case!
I realize this blog right now is mostly about school and because of this I thought I'd share a little list of the most valuable things I have learned in Uni. Also, if you have any suggestions what I could post about, just leave a comment!

Monday, November 18, 2013

I only had one class today but I spent a few hours writing a report that is due tomorrow. Nothing exciting to say about today so instead here's what I'll be doing for the rest of the week:
Wednesday: Catching Fire premiere with the girls, booyah, i've been waiting for this for a loong time!
Thursday: Oona's 19th birthday and a dinner celebrating her being one year older and wiser!
Friday: I'll be doing a surprise performance (more about that later) and hopefully I'll get the shoe for my cast so that I can start stepping on my foot!
Also, I have re-discovered my love for Supernatural, we were talking about it in school and Ansku mentioned she had started watching it, so I picked up from where I left off and oooh, Dean, how I have missed your handsome face!
LOOK AT THAT JAW... I can't.

With blood come the boys

Weekend recap:
Friday I spent with Ansku and Sofie watching Vain Elämää and drinking glögg (yum, winter is coming!), on Saturday I went to see my girls play and cheered them on and later on Julle came to keep me company ( we were supposed to watch Princess Diaries 2 but the night ended with us youtubing cute pigs and hard I guess?) and today, on Sunday I met up with Kata, had a coffee at Robert's and we went to see the new Carrie movie... That's it!
Ps. The title is from the movie, I haven't gone insane... yet.
The movie definitely taught me not to mess with the shy girl...

Hyvät ja huonot uutiset

Bad news of the day: I still didn't get the shoe that would allow me to step on my foot so another week of walking with crutches ahead...
Good news of the day: The coloring of the overalls was a success and I've started sowing the patches (which is very time consuming!) and also in 30 min I'm off to Ansku's to watch some tv and hang out! Happy Friday everybody!

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Been to school for 9 hours today, since I can't take the bus or drive a car my parents have to drive me around, and this means sometimes being a few hours earlier in school. Today was one of those days, but I just sat in the cafeteria for an hour and had some breakfast! The other much more exciting thing that happened today was that I finally got my student overalls! I'm (or my mom is really) coloring them at the moment, so if all goes well they should be purple by the end of the day!
Tomorrow I also have a doctor's appointment, hopefully I'll be getting some sort of a shoe so that I can slowly start stepping on my foot. That would seriously make my life so much easier... Fingers crossed!

Tuesday night wine party

So yesterday we threw one of our teacher's, Catheryn a small 'bachelorette' party (or really my classmate Nora did) since she's getting married on Sunday with one of our other teachers. They're both from Northern Ireland so most of their friends and family are over there, and we thought every girl should celebrate her big day somehow, right? Nora had arranged everything so well, there was delicious sweet potato soup, seriously the best cheese cake I've ever had and even a live performance! Cathryn's face was priceless when someone knocked on the door and in stepped a guy, for about 20 seconds she actually thought we had hired a stripper :D It's also quite amazing how many bottles of wine a group of 10 girls can drink in one night...
I gave Cathryn a little present with the two best things about Finland: Fazer's chocolate and Koskenkorva// The stripper turned out to be a guitarist!

Matilda//Yum yum

My lovely classmates!

The badge I got today, SUPERGULIS!// Oona trying to mimic Nora's awesome drawing... This picture really shows how interesting we find our phonology classes XD

Monday. You bastard.

Another week begins and now i definitely feel like I have a lot of school stuff to catch up on... (I didn't do anything this weekend, tee-hee!). You just feel like there isn't enough hours in the day, especially now when winter is coming and it's already dark at 5 o'clock! That shit cray.
Anyways I still have 100 pages to read for a literature assignment so I should go and do that but I decided to just check in here and procrastinate for a while.
Tomorrow I'm going to my teacher's bachelorette party, which is pretty weird but also kinda fun. She's very sweet and from Northern Ireland, since her closest friends don't live here we decided to throw her a party! 'Cause hey, every girl should have a bachelorette party, am I right?
Me yesterday, looking surprisingly fresh (Yay for no hangover!)//Truest quote ever

Britannica's XL anniversary party

So yesterday I attended Britannica's 40th anniversary party at the restaurant Koulu with Julia as my lovely avec. I have to say I had a super fun time, at first I was a little nervous because I've never been to an anniversary party before but it went a lot better than expected. It was like a fancy sitz really, with food, snaps songs and just chatting with the people you sat next to! After that I also stopped by RHC for a little while but at 2 o'clock I started making my way home, my leg needed some rest at that point. But it was a very successful night and I woke up hangover-free today (other's weren't so lucky...)

Happy Father's Day, Daddy! There are a lot of things I could say about my dad, he's very funny, caring and I know he'll always stick up to me! I'm a lot like my dad in many ways and I love that, I hope I'll be as good as a parent to my children in the future as he has been to me and my brother.
Hyvää Isänpäivää, rakastan sua!

Fight Back

Hello, hello!
Had to wake up pretty early today in spite of my day off, since me and Oona went to a junior high school to observe a few lessons. It's a task we had to do for school and it was actually quite interesting. Since we went to a Finnish speaking school (and we have both always studied in Swedish), it was interesting to see some of the differences between our old school and this one! The only downer was that I had to jump up a lot of stairs in order to get to the class room...
I've also been to the doctor to get a check-up on my foot, the doctor said it looked quite good and in a week I might be able to get some sort of shoe so that I can walk with the cast! That would be super, I'm getting quite sick of walking with crutches.
And later I'm going to the men's basketball game to help out with the 'table', so busy Friday!

If you're from Finland you might have seen this video of Pekka Hyysalo. An accident gave him a serious brain injury and he slipped into a 17 day coma. When he woke up, he was paralyzed. Amazingly, he has been able to rehabilitate himself at a rapid speed. You can truly see the fighting spirit in his eyes. What an inspiring person, it really puts things into perspective and reminds us to appreciate the things we have, our health and our family and friends! Below is a mini-documentary of his recovery, I recommend you all to watch it and to be inspired!

Barnie Stienson

Well, well, well, not much going on over here, mostly when I've gotten home I've either sat by the computer doing homework ( or then I've been laying in the sofa watching anything that is on, mostly because there isn't really anything else I can do... 5 more weeks! Like today Britannica was hosting a Pub Crawl and I would've totally wanted to go... next year I guess?

Yesterday was actually fun, after school Isa picked me up and we drove to Littoinen where sofie had prepared a super delicious salad with homemade pesto and mudcake for dessert and then we played a really cool board game and it was a lot of fun!

Below two 'funny' pictures from yesterday:
1) I'm reading Brighton Rock..YOLO since 1949 I guess?
2) One of the girl's (I won't reveal who) answers in the board game last night. She obviously does not know a lot about How I met your mother :D

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Well this weekend all I've been doing is sitting at home, on the sofa, on the chair... pretty boring. Actually excited about getting out of the house! And also very excited for next week because:

1. I'm attending Britannica's annual party
2. Catching Fire comes to theaters!
3. I get to get out of the house
4. One less week of having a cast!

A few days ago I put a picture of my cast on Instagram and suddenly I discovered a whole world of guys with... cast-fetishes? I've gotten comments on how cute my toes are, someone said they wanted to sign my cast (and it somehow sounded very perverted) and someone said we could start our own club... it's very strange but pretty amusing!

Happy Happy Halloween

I have to say I had a really fun night last night, I got to see my friends and everybody was really well dressed, Isa was such a great host and all in all I had a lot of fun! When the other's went to the bar my mom came to pick me up, of course it would've been fun to go but it's for the best! I probably feel a lot better today than most of my friends ;)
Here are some pics:

Clever Costumes

I can't believe how creative we've been this year. Me as a minion and Emppu as Patrick the Starfish!

Ghosts from the past

I'm so so so excited about tonight, even though I wish I could go out with my friends but at least I don't have to stay at home all night! I'll put pics later of my outfit but in the meantime some pictures of my previous halloween outfits!

Ok so in the first picture I'm at julle's Halloween party (I think it was in 2006...) and I'm Captain Jack! Ida is an alien and julle is Marilyn Monroe. In the picture underneath I'm Lady Gaga, I still have that yellow 'caution tape' lying around with no use (this was in 2009) XD and in the last picture I was pretty boring... Nobodyk new what I was but I was a spider-web... yup, 2011 was clearly not a year full of imagination!

Here in the first picture I was at our school's Halloween party in 2012 and we had a group theme 'Alice in Wonderland', I was Alice's Rabbit, Emppu was the cat and Kata was lovely Alice. In 2010 me and julle dressed up as Mickey & Minnie Mouse, also here you can see a VERY RARE photo of Sofie in a M&M costume meant for 4-year-olds. And in 2012 I also dressed up as Nicki Minaj, Icrammed two scarfes down my pants to get that butt, lol!
